About

Making art is often a very solitary venture.

Whether we’re making images, music or crafting words, we are often alone.

And that’s unfortunate because the best ideas, the best work comes from the inspiration and associations we find in the world at large.

And, that's what A Photographers Place is all about.

A Photographers Place is where photographers can learn and grow, exchange ideas freely, nurture their talents, and allow the photographic artist the space and the means to explore possibilities.

The best ideas come from associations and experiences, not sitting alone in a room.

There’s a reason The Beatles were the one of the most successful collaborative ventures in history. They took ideas and inspiration from everywhere. Only Beethoven spent more time alone in a room. And even he occasionally went out for a country walk…

Experiences over the last several years working with the team that organizes the Click! Photography Festival has only reinforced this belief in the power of association and collaboration. I’ve seen up close what a small but mighty group can do to create an environment where photographic artists are encouraged and enabled to follow their muse. I’ve seen the affect the experience can have on the artists themselves. It can be life-changing. I know. I experienced it myself.

But festivals only run for a short period of time, limiting the number of photographers who might potentially engage. There are a fair number of artists collectives that create an environment for artists to create work, but not so much for photographers.

So, here we are. Located in Raleigh, North Carolina and always welcoming in our current and newest members from around the Triangle Area and beyond: Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Wake Forest, Wendell, Knightdale, and Fuquay-Varina,
